By Matsuda Sukenaga (1810-1871), Takayama, Hida Province, 19th century
The frog climbing over the large pod, looking out for danger with an alert expression, its hind legs poised to leap and the lotus stalk trailing forward over the pod which has several loose seeds inserted beneath, signed in a sunken rectangular reserve Sukenaga. 4.2cm (1 5/8in) wide.
