Having three arched ladder-splats, between turned uprights, the flat arms with characteristic hooked-ends on tapering-turned front-supports mortised through the side seat-rail and top side stretcher, the rush-seat on turned front legs joined by multiple turned stretchers, 57.5cm wide x 48cm deep x 85cm high, (22.5in wide x 18.5in deep x 33in high)

  • Literature: Dr. B. Cotton, The English Regional Chair, p.294, Fig.WM14, illustrates a similar armchair by the Kerry family of Evesham. The author compares the stylistic features of chairs made by Philip Clisset of Bosbury, Herefordshire, and chairs designed by Ernest Gimson, a leading member of the Arts and Crafts Movement during the latter part of the 19th century ibid., p.288 - 295, concluding that the Kerry chair may represent a vernacular prototype, see pp.297-300.

    A similar chair, attributed to Kerry, sold these rooms, Property of Paul Hopwell, lot 533, 19 January 2012, (£750).

Buyers' Premium and Charges

26% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £20,000 up to and including £700,000;
20% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £700,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.

VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
