Lot 280*
A Royal Worcester reticulated vase by George Owen, dated 1908 and 1919

Sold for £ 3,500 (US$ 4,195) inc. premium
A Royal Worcester reticulated vase by George Owen, dated 1908 and 1919
Of ovoid shape, the rim, twin ring handles and mask terminals picked out in gold, the foot moulded with four further masks, the body pierced with a narrow band of unique design, reserved on a honeycomb ground, a raised gold border below the neck, 10.8cm high, factory mark in gold, incised G Owen 1908

Footnotes

  • The shape of this vase was much favoured by George Owen. Another of the same form is illustrated by John Sandon, Investigating George Owen: The Lydia Starr Collection, Ars Ceramica Number 24, p 19. The disparity between the incised date and the gilded date code suggests that the vase was gilded some years after George Owen had completed it, as was often the case
