La légendaire Porsche RS fut élaborée quand Porsche prit conscience que le poids de son modèle de série de haut de gamme, la 911 S 2,4 litres, limitait son potentiel de développement pour la compétition. On décida donc de produire et de faire homologuer une version allégée pour la compétition. Il en résulta la Carrera RS (RennSport) avec des portes, un toit, un couvercle de coffre et un plancher en tôle plus fine, jusqu'à la grille de levier de vitesse.

Une fois l'homologation acquise, la production de la RS allégée cessa, mais le nom de Carrera fut conserver pour le modèle haut de gamme, qui dans sa nouvelle mouture de série 911 SC était équipé du moteur 2,7 litres de 210 ch monté dans une coque standard avec tous les équipements de série. L'aileron arrière était proposé en option et son absence sur la voiture vendue ne fait que souligner la sobre élégance d'une 911 Carrera sans artifices.

Si l'on s'en réfère à son Porsche Zertifikat, cette voiture fut vendue neuve en Italie avec les options suivantes : peinture blanche Grand Prix, marquage latéral Carrera noir et toit ouvrant métallique coulissant. Les travaux récents, exécutés en 2012, concernent le réfection des freins et un nouveau alternateur, les roulements de roues et les pneus (factures disponibles). Réputée sans oxydation et non accidentée, la voiture a été repeinte dans sa couleur d'origine à une date indéterminée. L'intérieur de cuir noir est présenté comme étant en bon état et la boîte de vitesses et les équipements électriques fonctionnent normalement.

Cette 911 Carrera de la première génération, un modèle de plus en plus recherchée, est vendue avec son Einzelgenehmigung autrichien et le Porsche Zertifikat mentionné plus haut.

The legendary Porsche RS resulted from the factory's realisation that the weight of its top-of-the-range 2.4-litre 911S production model restricted its development potential for racing. Therefor, it was decided to produced and homologate a special lightweight variant for competition purposes. The result was the Carrera RS (RennSport), which featured thinner-gauge metal in its doors, roof, boot lid, floors and even in the gearchange platform.

When the homologation targets had been met, the lightweight RS was discontinued but the Carrera name continued on Porsche's top-of-the-range model, which in its new, series-production 911SC form mounted the 2.7-litre, 210bhp engine in a full-weight, fully trimmed bodyshell. The tail spoiler was an option and its absence from this car only serves to emphasise the understated elegance of the 911 Carrera in unadorned form.

According to its accompanying Porsche Zertifikat, this car was originally sold in Italy with the following extras: Grand Prix White paintwork; black 'Carrera' side lettering; and a sliding steel sunroof. Recent works, carried out in the autumn of 2012, included overhauling the brakes and fitting a new alternator, wheel bearings and tyres (invoices available). Said to be rust-free and undamaged, the car at some time has been repainted in its original colour. The black leather interior in described as in very good condition and both the gearbox and electrics are said to function normally.

This highly desirable and increasingly collectible early 911 Carrera is offered with Austrian Einzelgenehmigung and the aforementioned Porsche Zertifikat.

Buyers' Premium and Charges

Like the vast majority of auctioneers Bonhams charge what is known as a Buyer's Premium. Buyer's Premium on all Automobilia lots will adhere to Bonhams group policy:

25% up to £50,000 of hammer price,
20% from £50,001 to £1,000,000 of hammer price,
and 12% on the balance thereafter. This applies to each lot purchased and is subject to VAT.

For Motor Cars and Motorcycles a 15% Buyer's Premium is payable on the first £50,000 of the final Hammer Price of each Lot, and 12% on any amount by which the Hammer Price exceeds £50,000. VAT at the standard rate is payable on the Premium by all Buyers, unless otherwise stated.

Some lots may be subject to VAT on the Hammer Price. These lots will be clearly marked with the relevant symbol printed beside the lot number in the catalogue.
