With inlay attributed to Tsuchiya Yasuchika, Edo, probably 18th century
Of wide form, delicately engraved in kebori with a cockerel strutting beneath a spreading pine branch and inlaid in gilt metal with two chicks, signed in seal form on an inlaid brass tablet Yasuchika; with ivory ojime. Width 7cm (2¾in).

    Tsuchiya Yasuchika (1670-1744) was, with Nara Toshinaga and Sugiura Joi, one of the three great early masters of machibori-style metalwork. He was succeeded by six generations of followers and the present example is believed to be by one of the early generations.
