It is extremely rare to find a Qianlong reign-marked glass bottle vase of this large size, in which the complex double overlay method has been so successfully utilised. The contrast in colour between the pink and green is highly evocative, bringing out the overall design in a highly vivid manner.

For a glass vase of comparable strong colour contrast in the Palace Museum, Beijing, decorated with turquoise-blue flowers against a vivid crimson-red ground, see Zhang Rong, Luster of Autumn Water. Glass of the Qing Imperial Workshop, Beijing, 2005, pg. 246, no.81. It shares the same wheel-cut four-character Qianlong reign mark as the current vase. Compare also a blue glass overlay bottle vase in the Palace Museum, Beijing, of similar shape to the current vase, decorated with chilong, illustrated, ibid, pg.222, no.67.
