1969 Moretti FIAT 128S Cabriolet
Chassis no. 1641124
Giovanni Moretti built the first Moretti motorcycles, light cars and vans in the late 1920s. For a small manufacturer, Moretti offered a bewilderingly diverse range of models after WW2 including coupés, estate cars, commercials and some electrically powered models. By the early 1960s it had become apparent that manufacturing was no longer sustainable and the firm turned exclusively to specialist coachbuilding. A range of attractive sports coupés and cabriolets was offered on FIAT chassis followed by several small 4x4s in the 1980s.
This rare FIAT 128-based Moretti cabriolet was sold new to the preceding owner by Achilli Motors in Milan, at that time the Italian Rolls-Royce distributors, who also sold other exclusive makes. Their original sales sticker is still on the windscreen. The current owner bought the car in 2005 and that same year had the braking system, exhaust system, radiator, engine bearings, steering box and ancillary belts replaced. At the same time the body was repainted and wheel alignment checked by laser. Described as in generally excellent condition, the car has covered 68,392 kilometres from new and always passed the annual roadworthiness test in Monaco without any problems. In September 2011 the car was driven from Monaco to Montreux in Switzerland to take part in the Moretti Day, returning via the St Bernard pass at a height of 2,500 metres without difficulty. This actual car has been subject of a six-page article in the Italian magazine Ruote Classiche in 2008 (copy available) and also comes with a letter from Mr Moretti confirming that fewer than 80 examples were made. It is offered with sundry invoices, expertise documents, Monaco Carte Grise and Contrôle Technique.
