The Birmingham Small Arms Co Ltd, better known for their manufacture of motor cycles, produced a sturdy 10hp car in the early 1930's. As well as the standard factory saloon coachwork by Pressed Steel Co Ltd of Oxford, other coachbuilders who were to adorn the BSA cars included Mulliners of Birmingham, Holbrook of Wolverhampton and Salmons of London. This car carries high specification Mulliner four door coachwork. The small BSA featured a four-speed pre-selector gearbox with the renowned Daimler fluid flywheel transmission, Daimler, Lanchester and BSA all being under the BSA umbrella by 1935. Priced at around £245 the BSA was an expensive model in its day costing some £70 or so more than the contemporary Morris equivalent.
This car is presented in blue and black livery and retains its original blue leather upholstery. Interior fittings include silk pulls for the rear seat passengers and a rear courtesy light, while dashboard instrumentation includes a Watford clock and speedometer. The car enjoys the benefit of an opening windscreen and a sliding sunshine roof. Other equipment includes a radiator calormeter, Lucas trafficators and a rear luggage grid. A dashboard plaque indicates supply by the Wessex Garage Co. Ltd. of Exeter and the car was first registered with Exeter County Borough Council in October 1934.
This car was acquired by the present owner some seven years ago and has shared the garage with the owner's three-wheeler BSA for some of that time. It has been used sparingly, respecting its years, and recent work carried out has included fitting a replacement radiator core, the cylinder head has been skimmed, new gaskets fitted, along with a new battery and the carburettor and starter motor have been refurbished. A number of invoices and notes on file record all recent work carried out. The car is generally smartly presented, retaining originality in all major respects and is expected to be offered with a current MoT certificate. It comes also with a history file and old and new style registration documents.

Buyers' Premium and Charges
Like the vast majority of auctioneers Bonhams charge what is known as a Buyer's Premium. Buyer's Premium on all Automobilia lots will adhere to Bonhams group policy:
25% up to £50,000 of hammer price, 20% from £50,001 to £1,000,000 of hammer price, and 12% on the balance thereafter. This applies to each lot purchased and is subject to VAT.
For Motor Cars and Motorcycles a 15% Buyer's Premium is payable on the first £50,000 of the final Hammer Price of each Lot, and 12% on any amount by which the Hammer Price exceeds £50,000. VAT at the standard rate is payable on the Premium by all Buyers, unless otherwise stated.
Some lots may be subject to VAT on the Hammer Price. These lots will be clearly marked with the relevant symbol printed beside the lot number in the catalogue.
