A very early U.S. Model 1873 Trapdoor Springfield rifle
Serial no. 8818, .45-70 caliber. 32 5/8 inch blued barrel without proofs. Casehardened breechlock marked Model/ 1873/eaglehead over crossed arrows/U.S. Oil-finished walnut stock bearing faint P proof behind triggerguard under small stamped c but no ESA.
Condition: Very good. Retaining most of the arsenal refinish showing some scattered very light pitting. Bore pitted. Clean wood showing light marks.
