STEINBECK, JOHN. 1902-1968.
Typed Carbon, 27 pp, legal folio, n.p., [1945], being a portion of Steinbeck's draft of the screenplay for La Perla (The Pearl), including suggestions for music, pages moderately age toned, housed in custom case.
A partial draft of the screenplay Steinbeck provided for Emilio Fernandez's adaptation of The Pearl released in Mexico in 1947 as La Perla and still considered today a landmark of that country's cinema. "The Pearl" first appeared in The Woman's Home Companion, 1945, though the first book edition was not until 1947. Excerpt includes the opening through the first act break, when Kino kills the man who attacks him. This draft seems to be a carbon from Steinbeck's own typewriter.
