Freddie Timms' aerial landscapes on a black ground are amongst his strongest images. Here he depicts the topographical landscape around Atlas Springs on Texas Downs station, where he worked alongside Rover Thomas, and where he first painted ceremonial boards used in performances. His paintings sometimes touch on traditional narratives, though his range of subject matter is more diverse than his contemporaries, at times depicting confronting contemporary social issues and historical incidents. In this work he maps an area of Texas Downs, where he spent much of his working life, and is an example of what his friend, the linguist and archivist Frances Kofod has described as a painting that shows, "features of the landscape such as black soil, red ground, sandy ground, hills, creeks and water holes – as well as a historical and spiritual level, showing roads, stockyards, homesteads and dreaming places".(Adapted from an essay by Frances Kofod for an exhibition at Sherman Galleries, Sydney.)

Timms work has been exhibited widely internationally, and his work is held in all major Australian institutions. Recently a related site specific installation entitled Lissadell 2008–10, was commissioned for the ceiling of the grand public foyer of the Ark building, North Sydney.

This painting is sold with Warmun Traditional Arts documentation
