Footnotes

  • Fighting Jack Cooper fought in the early 1820s and was known as 'the greatest gypsy of them all' in boxing circles at the time. He is best remembered for his bout with Iron Arm Cabbage which lasted for longer than 20 rounds.
    Jock McAvoy, The Rochdale Thunderbolt, fought from 1927-1945 and was the British and Commonwealth middleweight champion. Known as a hard puncher he won 132 of his 147 bouts, 89 by knock out. He changed his name to Jock when he was young so his mother wouldn't find out he was boxing.
    Vincent Pepper Martin was a featherweight fighter from a family of boxers from Brooklyn. Of his 73 fights he won 46, 19 by knock out, dying tragically young from pneumonia.
    Jack Dempsey, The Manassa Mauler is known as one of the greatest fighters of all time. He held the World Heavyweight title from 1919-1926. many of his records still stand including the attendance record of 120,000. When he was finally defeated by Gene Tunney in 1926 in the famous Fight of the long count he explained the situation to his wife by saying 'honey, I forgot to duck'.

Buyer's Premium Rates
27.5% on the first £10,000 of the hammer price;
25% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £10,000 up to and including £450,000;
20% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £450,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.

VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
