A cased Holland & Holland bolt action takedown sporting rifle
Serial no. 28084, re-chambered to .375/338 Chatfield-Taylor (belted Newton) caliber. 23 1/2 inch blued barrel, the ramp fore-sight with removable H&H hood, top marked Holland & Holland 98 New Bond Street London. Winners of all the Field Rifle Trials. Express rear sights mounted on matte ramp, three folding leaves 100,200 and 300. Breech marked Holland's/Patent/Cartridge/.375 Bore and stamped on left side H.R. Houck. Blued action with matte chamber and scroll-engraved borders and fitted with Lyman adjustable peep sight and telescopic mount. R. Noske 2 1/2x Hunter scope with Griffin & Howe quick release mount. Blued and scroll-engraved floorplate and triggerguard. Checkered fore-end with horn cap and checkered pistolgrip stock of dark, partly figured walnut. Leather-covered buttpad. Casehardened and scroll-engraved pistolgrip cap with trap containing extra front sight. Complete with original maroon baize-lined canvas and leather case serial numbered to gun, the lid with Holland & Holland labels. Case includes sectional cleaning rod with accessories and sling swivels.
Condition: Fine. Retaining 98% blue finish showing some light edge wear. Excellent bore. Gun has been re-chambered in the United States, probably by H.R. Houck of Houston, Texas, from .375 H&H Express to the present configuration. Stock showing some wear to varnish, scattered light marks and one deep scratch to left rear of action. Buttpad replaced. Case exterior with some marks and scuffing. Labels with staining, one with some losses. Lining with light wear.
