Stylish, fast and well engineered, the 635CSi enjoyed a production run lasting into the 1990s, being periodically up-dated in line with its sister models. Mechanically similar to the 5-Series saloons, BMW's 6-Series coupe debuted in 1976 incorporating some components destined for the yet-to-be-announced 7-Series. Karmann styled like the preceding 3.0CS/CSi, the luxurious newcomer was similarly well-specified, featuring all-independent suspension, four-wheel disc brakes and power-assisted steering as standard. Commencing with the 3-litre 630 and 3.3-litre 633, the range was supplemented by the 3.5-litre 635 in 1978. Improved suspension and a slightly smaller (3,430cc) but more refined power unit were introduced in 1982. In 1985 when International Group-A rules were introduced to Australia's Touring Car category, Jim Richards in a John Player Special BMW 635CSi dominated the season winning seven of the 10 races ultimately winning the championship. On the back of this success, BMW Australia decided to import a handful of the right-hand drive cars being produced at the time. One of only 58 right-hand drive manual cars manufactured between January 1986 and May 1987, this very tidy BMW 635CSi was delivered to the original owner through John Newell Motors in Bass Hill. Finished in Zinnober Red, the car has travelled just under 180,000 kms in the past 25 years and comes with full books. The BMW remains in remarkably original, unmolested condition and is loaded with features like sunroof, air conditioning, electric windows, power front seats and factory alloy wheels. To be sold with full NSW registration until January 2012. This 635CSi is a great example of BMW's supremely elegant 1980s super coupe.
