Of upright form, bearing a fine kinji ground and lacquered with a horse grazing beneath a willow tree, after the design by Isen'in Hoin, the reverse showing a recumbent horse after the design by Seisen Osanobu, in gold, silver and brown takamakie, the interior of nashiji, signed Kansai with red kao. 9.2cm (3 5/8in).

    Isen'in (1775-1828) was the art name of Kano Naganobu (Eishin) who was the seventh-generation head of the Kano branch of painters in Edo. Seisen was the art name of Kano Yasunobu (1796-1846), also known as Osanobu (Yoshin), the son of Isen'in, who became the eighth head of the same family.

27.5% on the first £20,000 of the hammer price;
26% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £20,000 up to and including £700,000;
20% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £700,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.

VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
