Footnotes

  • First used by Hillman in 1932, the Minx name continued on the company's medium-sized saloon into the post-war era. The first Minx set the pattern for its successors, being more comfortable and better equipped than rival 10hp designs while offering a respectable turn of speed courtesy of its 1,185cc sidevalve engine. A 'V' radiator was new for 1934 but the following year brought more significant changes; a lowered chassis frame improved passenger access while a four-speed all-synchromesh gearbox replaced the previous three-speeder. The original 'upright' model was superseded by a heavily revised and more modern looking version - badged as the 'Minx Magnificent' - in January 1936, this larger and heavier newcomer featuring a new box-section chassis frame and a restyled body offering increased passenger space. In this form the Minx continued in production up to the outbreak of WW2 when it was superseded by a new unitary construction model. The latter continued post-war, losing its first-gear synchro and gaining a restyled front end and opening boot along the way, while retaining the beam front axle and Bendix brakes.
This relatively rare drophead coupé variant has been owned by the vendor's family since 1965 and been kept off the road in dry storage. Benefiting from considerable restoration in the 1990s, 'KPK 543' is described as in generally good condition, with 'fair' interior and electrics. The car comes with Swansea V5 and is sold strictly as viewed.
