Footnotes

  • Founded by Henry Leland and Robert Faulconer, the Cadillac Automobile Company, of Detroit completed its first car in October 1902 and the firm's superior manufacturing technology - precision gear cutting was Leland and Faulconer's first speciality - soon established it as the foremost builder of quality cars in the USA. In 1901, Olds Motor Works had contracted for the supply of Leland-built engines and, when unforeseen circumstances frustrated the plan, Leland and Faulconer formed their own company using funds supplied by two of Henry Ford's ex-backers, taking its name from the great French explorer who had founded Detriot in 1701.
During the early 1930s it seemed that almost every year brought with it a landmark advance in the development of Cadillac's long-running V8 engine. For 1936 there was an entirely new version in 322ci (5.3 litres) and 346ci (5.7 litres) capacities, the former powering a new range - the Series 60 - introduced between the existing Cadillacs and the smaller companion LaSalle. The larger V8 was reserved for the medium sized Series 60 and 75 models, which for 1936 carried all-steel 'turret top' bodies by Fleetwood featuring vee windscreens.
A rare right-hand drive export model, this Cadillac limousine on the 141" wheelbase Series 75 chassis has the 346ci 140bhp V8 engine and manual transmission. The car was purchased by the current vendor approximately five years ago, having been in the immediately preceding owner's possession for 25 years. Serviced regularly since acquisition, it has not been used for the last two years and will require re-commissioning before returning to the road. (Prospective purchasers are advised to study the accompanying MoT Test failure report). Offered without reserve and sold strictly as viewed, this imposing classic American comes with old-style logbook and Swansea V5 registration document. No reserve
