1992 Tigcraft Rotax 640cc Supermono Racing Motorcycle
This Rotax-engine Tigcraft supermono racer was built over the winter of 1991/92 for the 1992 season by Les Dinham in Cornwall. The machine was used sparingly before being sold to a Mr Groves and then rebuilt but not raced. It was purchased by the current vendor in mid-1996, who went on to achieve some 2nd and 3rd place finishes in national events plus a win at club meeting at Sculthorpe.

The Rotax engine's original twin-cam cylinder head cracked and has been replaced with a single-cam, twin-carburettor type, fitted and tuned by Steve Campbell (Thunder Engineering) using a Rotax '860' camshaft. Subsequently sent to Sportax for a full rebuild including new crankcases, it has covered six laps at Mallory Park to bed in plus some airfield running. Further running-in advised before serious abuse, 8,500rpm being the recommended maximum with 9,000 revs usable in 'emergencies'.

The Swinging arm was built by specialists JMC for Tigcraft and is fitted with new bearings modified from standard (bored out to 16mm). The forks are ex-Norton Rotary, supplied by Dave Parkinson, re-sprung to suit a single and serviced by Hejira, while the wheels are 17" Astralite - 3½" front, 5" rear - in Yamaha TZ fitting. Gripped by AP callipers, the 300mm Yamaha TZ-fitting front brake is believed to be by Spondon while the rear is modern TZ. Other noteworthy features include a Suzuki GSX-R front mudguard; Harris carbon fibre rear hugger (Ducati 900SS pattern); and a Pete Gibson exhaust system. A potentially competitive mount in the 'sound of singles' and 'supermono' categories, this smartly turned out machine is offered with a starting/running instructions and a substantial quantity of restoration invoices. A dismantled spare engine is included in the sale.
