Sold for £ 2,990 (US$ 4,003) inc. premium
1981 Camier KTM 640cc Racing Motorcycle
This 'supermono' racer's frame was built by Dave Camier (of JCM), father of Leon Camier, currently riding for the Aprilia works team in the World Superbike Championship. Dave mostly built frames for the Yamaha TZ250/350 but also made some for single-cylinder engines. This frame was built in 1981 and raced quite successfully at top level with a 500cc Rotax engine installed until the late 1980s. In 1992 it was almost destroyed in an accident at Mallory Park and in 1993/94 was rebuilt by Ian Wagstaff with Honda wheels, new plastics and a 600cc CCM engine.

The current vendor bought the rolling chassis in February 2008 and completely rebuilt it to accommodate a 640cc KTM engine. He also fitted a 41mm 'pumper' carburettor and custom made exhaust to make it breath properly. Everything was overhauled during the rebuild including forks, wheels, brakes, etc. The bike still has a starter motor fitted for convenience. As the KTM engine only takes 1.4 litres of oil the lubrication system's capacity has been enlarged by means of an auxiliary oil tank that holds 2.6 litres, making a total capacity of 4 litres. The oil is delivered from the tank to the engine by an electric pump, then the engine's two internal pumps take over, returning the oil through a cooler and filter to the tank. The forks and wheels are from a Honda CBR600 while the brakes are AP Lockheed at the front and Honda Fireblade at the rear. Paintwork was done by Dream Machine in the style of the works KTM 250cc FFR GP racer of 2005. A potentially competitive mount in the 'sound of singles' and 'supermono' categories, this smartly turned out machine is offered with a substantial quantity of restoration invoices. A spare KTM 640cc five-speed engine and a pair of Astralite wheels shod in Dunlop KR844 wets are included in the sale.
