Footnotes

  • Ferrari's policy of building a single, dual-purpose race/road model did not survive long into the 1960s, the diverging requirements of the two markets necessitating greater specialisation in the form of the competition-only 250GTO and touring 250GT Lusso. The 250GTO (the initials stand for Gran Turismo Omologato) was developed for the FIA GT Championship, taking the manufacturers' title for Ferrari in 1962, 1963 and 1964. Ferrari made only 39 250GTOs, which were used almost exclusively for racing.
Genuine 250GTOs are among the most sought-after of post-war automobiles, commanding a king's ransom on the rare occasions one is offered for sale. For less wealthy enthusiasts the answer is a replica, many of which have been built using genuine Ferrari components. The example offered here though, is based on a Datsun 260Z, a car of similar dimensions. The Verified Service Schedule on file records that the replica was created in 1985 using a 'body kit, interior and wheels', and that between September 1988 and July 1989 it was extensively restored by Datsun marque specialists, Mr Z. Subsequent refurbishment has included restoration of the floorpan and chassis (1998), a new fuel tank (1999) and a full interior re-trim (2007). The current vendor has owned the car since 2007 and says he has enjoyed it immensely. 'DJB 33C' is finished in red with black leather interior and comes with sundry service/maintenance invoices, MoT to 4th May 2011 and Swansea V5C document. Used sparingly and kept well maintained, this convincing evocation of one of the world's most desirable cars is offered at a mere fraction of the price of an original.

25% up to £50,000 of hammer price,
20% from £50,001 to £1,000,000 of hammer price,
and 12% on the balance thereafter. This applies to each lot purchased and is subject to VAT.

For Motor Cars and Motorcycles a 15% Buyer's Premium is payable on the first £50,000 of the final Hammer Price of each Lot, and 12% on any amount by which the Hammer Price exceeds £50,000. VAT at the standard rate is payable on the Premium by all Buyers, unless otherwise stated.

Some lots may be subject to VAT on the Hammer Price. These lots will be clearly marked with the relevant symbol printed beside the lot number in the catalog.
