An incised and carved white jade snuff bottle

Well hollowed, with flat lip and concave oval foot, the body carved in low relief with an image of a seal with a qilin finial on one of the main sides, the other with the seal's legend incised in seal-script heightened with vermilion red, surrounded by the legend transcribed in regular script highlighted in gold, stopper.

    The inscription written in seal and regular script reads: 範圍天地,幽贊神明,保合太和,萬壽無疆, 'Within the scope of heaven and earth, with the unfathomable assistance of divine insight, consolidating the extreme harmony, for unlimited longevity', beneath a title reading: 宋定命寶璽, 'Treasured Imperial seal from the Song Dynasty'.
