1972 Norton 745cc Commando
Registration no. JRK 898K
Frame no. 144427
Engine no. 20M3S/144427
The Commando’s vibration-beating Isolastic frame enabled Norton Villiers successfully to prolong the life of their ageing parallel twin. Launched in 1967, the Commando used the preceding Featherbed-framed Atlas model’s 745cc engine and AMC gearbox, and was an instant hit with the motorcycling public, being voted Motor Cycle News ‘Machine of the Year’ for five consecutive years. It might have been a little down on top speed compared to rivals such as BSA-Triumph’s 750cc triples and Honda’s CB750 four, but the Commando more than made up for this minor deficiency with superior mid-range torque and steadier handling.

This Commando 750 was purchased by the current vendor in July 1993 and has covered some 4,000 miles since then. Routine maintenance carried out has included replacing the tyres, drive chain and carburettors, and the machine is described by the private vendor as in generally good condition, benefiting from two new ignition coils and a new front tyre. Classed as an historic vehicle and thus tax exempt, ‘JRK 898K’ is offered with a quantity of expired MoT certificates dating back to 1989, Swansea V5C registration document and current MoT/tax. Boyer Bransden electronic ignition is the only notified deviation from factory specification.
