Of London shape, locally painted with equally spaced pink rose blooms with green and gold foliage, surrounded by smaller gilded sprigs, a foliate border around the shoulder, 15cm high (teapot cracked, minute chip to spout) (3)

  • Provenance: WD John. This lot is sold together with a handwritten note from WD John stating that it comes from a service found near Cowbridge which belonged to a branch of the Dillwyn family. See Roland Williams, Nantgarw Porcelain, fig 42 p 21 for another example of this shape. In addition to the Nantgarw version of the London-shaped teapot, a circular teapot is also found. See the following lot in this sale. Another teapot of different form is adapted from a sauce tureen and is illustrated by Roland Williams at fig 51, p 23.

Buyers' Premium and Charges

For all Sales categories, buyer's premium excluding Cars, Motorbikes, Wine, Whisky and Coin & Medal sales, will be as follows:

Buyer's Premium Rates
27.5% on the first £20,000 of the hammer price;
26% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £20,000 up to and including £700,000;
20% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £700,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.

VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
