Footnotes

  • Provenance: The Godden Reference Collection. Illustrated by Geoffrey Godden, English Blue and White Porcelain (2004), colour pl 76, p 285 and pl 340, p 280. A pair of related tea canisters from The Godden Reference Collection was sold in these rooms on 30 June 2010. The inscriptions on the ends of these canisters indicates the type of tea each was intended to contain, 'Singlo' in this case. Such canisters may have been designed to fit within a wooden tea caddy. Examples retaining their original covers are exceedingly rare.
