Two sets of four figures of the Elements by John Walton and Ralph Salt, circa 1815-30
Providing a chance to compare two major Staffordshire figure makers, one set by John Walton, Fire as a man with a magnifying glass, Air a lady with a bird, Water a lady on a shell and Earth a gardener with spade and plantpot, all on grassy bases with rococo flourishes highlighted in blue, 17cm to 18.5cm high, all marked WALTON impressed on a scroll, the other set, for comparison, by Ralph Salt, the similar models with identical attributes, with titles on the bases, 16.5 to 17.8cm high, each impressed SALT on a scroll (some damage, losses and restoration) (8)
