  • In addition to the medals the lot includes Warrant dated 20.1.1936, a photograph showing him holding the Regimental standard of the South Staffordshire Regt, Certificates for Serbian, Finland, Denmark, Poland, Sweden and Norwegian medals and orders. Together with a photograph presented to him of Chiang Kai-shek on the 21st day of the 8th month of the 47th year of the Chinese Republic. Together with a piece of the flag (framed) that flew above the Polish Legation at Riga, Latvia whilst he was in charge of Polish interests there from Oct-Dec 1939.

    Captain Henry Briton Kerby was the son of the late Henry Kerby and was born on 11.12.1914 in St.Petersburg, Russia. He was educated at Highgate School and abroad. He joined the Army in 1933 and served with the King's Own Scottish Borderers and South Staffordshire Regiment between 1933 and 1937. He was the Honorary Attache to the British Legation in Riga, 1939; Acting British Consul Malmo, Sweden 1940; Specially employed under War Office 1941-45. Contested Middlesex Spelthorne in Liberal interest 1945 and Swansea West in Conservative interest in 1951 election. Served at MP Conservative for Arundel and Shoreham, West Sussex from 1954; Member of Parliamentary Delegation to Denmark 1955, Israel 1957, USSR 1957 and 1959, China (Formosa) 1958, Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland 1961. Vice President of South Eastern Association of Building Societies from 1955. Member of Southampton University Court 1959-63 and Court of University of Sussex 1961-68. FRGS 1962. He died in 1971.
