James McIntosh Patrick RSA ROI ARE LLD (British, 1907-1998)
Sheep Farm on the Braes of Breadalbane signed 'McIntosh Patrick' (lower right) oil on panel 17 x 24.75 cm. (6 11/16 x 9 3/4 in.)
Footnotes
PROVENANCE: A gift from the artist to owner's grandfather at Airlie Castle, Perthshire Thence by descent
Patrick's early work in particular displays consummate draughtsmanship, and in the 1920's he completed a number of meticulous etchings on a similar scale to this cabinet picture. The theme is redolent of the Brueghel-influenced snowscenes of the 1930's, which are some of his most loved works.
