A Rare Cased Pair Of 32-Bore Silver-Mounted Percussion Duelling Pistols
By W. Dupe, Oxford, Birmingham Silver Hallmarks For 1829, Maker's Mark Of Freeth & Jones
With browned damascus twist octagonal sighted barrels each signed in gold along the top flat and with gold bead fore-sight, case-hardened breeches with gold lines and engraved with foliage on the top flat, foliate engraved case-hardened tangs each incorporating a back-sight, signed border engraved flat detented locks decorated with foliage, the internal working parts retaining their original burnished finish, dolphin hammers (one hammer-spur repaired) decorated en suite with the locks, engraved safety-catches, highly figured half-stocks with chequered rounded butts, the latter each set with an engraved gold flower-head centred on the retaining screw, border engraved trigger-guards each with engraved pineapple finial and decorated with foliage on the D-shaped bow, rear ramrod-pipes, fore-end caps each engraved with a starburst on both sides, shield-shaped vacant gold escutcheons, shaped silver barrel-bolt escutcheons, original horn-tipped ramrods of light coloured wood (one repaired), and in fine condition: in original brass-mounted mahogany case fitted and lined in burgundy velvet with accessories including brass-mounted three-way powder-flask (some wear and minor dents), the exterior of the lid with shaped brass escutcheon incorporating a flush-fitting carrying handle, Birmingham proof marks
