A Very Rare German Boar-Sword (Schwein-Degen)
Early 16th Century
With straight slender blade of oblong section hollow-ground along each side towards the broad ricasso of flattened hexagonal section, rectangular piercing for the cross-bar, the latter of circular section with turned moulding and sharply hooked terminal on each side, and swelling double-edged point of flattened diamond section, hilt comprising straight quillons of circular section widening towards the tips, stopper-shaped pommel surmounted by a blunt spike on a diamond-shaped washer, and original tapering cord-bound wooden grip covered in blackened leather (old rust patination overall)
