Air Force Medal, G.V.R. (341882. L.A.C. F.T.Arney. R.A.F.); India General Service 1908-35, three bars, Afghanistan N.W.F. 1919, Waziristan 1919-21, Waziristan 1925 (260238 A.C.11.F.T.Arney. R.A.F.); General Service 1918-62, one bar, Malaya (Sqn. Ldr.F.T.Arney. R.A.F.); Royal Air Force Long Service, G.VI.R. (341882. Cpl F.T.Arney. R.A.F.). With light contact marks throughout, the first and second lightly polished, the third detached from supension, otherwise very fine. The Waziristan 1925 bar not confirmed. (4)

    Leading Aircraftsman Arney has performed exceptionally good work as wireless operator and air gunner throughout his 6 1/2 years' service in India, during which period he has flown over 600 hours under varying conditions. His keenness and enthusiasm throughout this period have been remarkable, his devotion to duty most marked.

    Squadron Leader F.T.Arney was born on 11th March 1900 at Portsea, Hampshire. He joined up as 260238 on 11.3.1918; Called up as Private 17.6.1918; Re-enrolled R.A.F. 21.6.1918; Transferred as 3 Air Mech to AF Reserve Class G on 17.3.1920; Re-enlisted as 341882 AC2 ACH u/f WOp Gp 5; Promoted to AC1 1.7.1923; LAC 1.4.1927; Corporal 20.10.1928; Sergeant 15.2.1937; Flight Sergeant 1.7.1939; Temporary Warrant Officer 1.6.1940; Discharged on Appointment of Commission 22.7.1940; Pilot Officer 23.7.1940; Attached to 98 Squadron in Iceland; Flying Officer 14.2.1941; HQ Coastal Command; HQ 19 Group; Flight Lieutenant 11.1.1945; Squadron Leader 1.8.1947. Placed on Retired List 17.6.1955. He died on 6.9.1965.

    His copied service record accompanies the lot confirming service in India from 26.10.1921 to 5.4.1928, and service in Malta from 15.10.1930 to 15.4.1936.
