A late 19th / early 20th century Burmese silver rice bowl,
incuse stamped to underside "MG PO MYIT", "Silversmith Rangoon",
profusely embossed with a band of figures in traditional dress on a matted ground, below foliate scroll band and above stylised stiff leaf decoration, rim engraved "Presented to Major L. St C. Nicholson, The Kings' Regt. On his marriage by his brother officers of the 1st Battalion. September 1903", diameter 21.5cm, weight 39oz.

  • Lieutenant Colonel Louis St. Clair Nicholson went on to commanded the 12th Battalion Liverpool Regiment and 51st Battalion of Northumberland Fusiliers during the First World War. He was mentioned in Despatches on 1st January 1916.
    Previous service in the Sudan earnt Captain L. St. C. Nicholson of 4th Battlion Liverpool Regiment a mention in the despatch from Major-General Sir H.H. Kitchener, K.C.M.G., C.B., dated Dongola, 30th September, 1896.

25% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £10,000 up to and including £450,000;
20% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £450,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.

VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
