Owen Williams, Ruthin, circa 1760-70
Having a 12-inch square dial, the silvered chapter ring with Roman hours, Arabic minutes and inner quarter-hour-track, framing a matted centre with silvered subsidiary seconds dial above engraved scroll-work flanking a silvered axe-head cartouche inscribed "OW'N WILLIAMS RUTHEN" (sic), over a terrestrial calendar square, the movement rack-striking on a bell, the case (at fault) having a swan-neck pediment with ball-and-eagle finial between cast rosettes over reeded square columns (hood glass cracked), the trunk with conforming pilasters flanking a triple arched crossbanded door, on a canted base and plinth, 232cm, (91.5") high (sold with two weights, pendulum, key and winder)
