  • The first significant up-grade of Jaguar's sensational E-Type sports car occurred in October 1964 with the launch of a 4.2-litre version incorporating an all-synchromesh gearbox and a host of other improvements together with the bigger, torquier engine. The top speed of around 150mph remained unchanged, the main performance gain resulting from the larger engine being improved acceleration. In 1966 Jaguar introduced an additional 'family friendly' 2+2 coupé on a longer wheelbase which, as well as the additional rear seats, boasted greater headroom, more luggage space, improved heating/ventilation and optional automatic transmission.

    This left-hand drive Series 1 4.2-Litre 2+2 Coupé was sold new in May 1967 via Frank Millard Sport Cars Inc, of Encino, California, USA and comes with the original warranty agreement and JDHT Certificate confirming that it is a desirable 'all matching numbers' example. In 1998 the E-Type was imported into the UK by Paul Webb Motors, having been laid up in Southern California since 1984. Complete and original, with no parts missing, it was purchased by the current (third) owner in August of that same year and subsequently treated to a 'ground upwards', 'last nut and bolt' restoration.

    Work carried out included a bare-metal re-spray in the original Opalescent Blue livery; a professional overhaul of the engine, automatic gearbox and rear axle; re-chroming of brightwork; installing a new wiring loom; overhauling the electrical ancillaries; re-coring the radiator; completely overhauling the braking system; a full interior re-trim using Heritage parts; and overhauling the original instruments and radio. In addition, the under-body has been Waxolyed; the wheelarches stone chip protected; and new wire wheels and a stainless steel exhaust system fitted. (The original Dunlop steel wheels are available if required).

    This painstaking rebuild took seven years to complete and the enthusiast vendor's efforts were duly rewarded when the E-Type was voted 'Best in Show' at the Jaguar Drivers Club meeting in July 2006. It has since gained a 2nd place in class award at the Dubai Classic Car Show on National Day and been featured in CAR Middle East magazine (July 2008 edition). A further measure of this E-Type's quality may be gained from the fact that it in April 2010 it was chosen for display at the press launch of the Jaguar XKR and XFR at the Dubai Autodrome.

    Described as looking, running and driving 'as original', this exceptional E-Type coupé is offered with a photographic record of the rebuild; sundry restoration invoices; Jaguar and Haynes workshop manuals; and a bespoke car cover. It is currently registered on a collectible four-digit Dubai number-plate and comes with a quantity of spare parts and a $2,000 air conditioning unit from the USA (purpose-made for E-Types).
