An exceptional blue and white sleeve vase
Shunzhi
Of tall cylindrical form, gently sloping at the shoulders, the short elegant neck flaring out at the mouth, vividly painted in brilliant tones of underglaze-blue with a continuous landscape scene of a princess depicted mounted on a horse, escorted by two attendants, one shading her with a parasol, and three armed soldiers, an aged sage depicted observing them, all against the backdrop of a wondrous mountainous scene, above an incised border of stylised leaves and the foot and below an incised border of foliate scroll at the shoulder, the neck painted with a band of pendant leaves.
