The roiro ground shading to nashiji, inlaid in iroe takazogan with Fukurokuju standing by a gold togidashi stream with banks of takamakie, the reverse inlaid with a boy playing by the stream with a crane and minogame and the interior of nashiji, signed for the lacquer, Kanko Bunryusai utsusu and for the metal inlay, Masayuki (Shozui); with oval lacquer manju, gold lacquered with informal kiri, in takamakie, unsigned. 8.9cm (3½in).

    Hamano Masayuki (Shozui) (1696-1769) was considered the founder of the Hamano school of sword-fitting makers, but was succeeded by a number of followers who adopted the name through the latter part of the 18th and the 19th centuries.

25% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £2,500 up to and including £300,000;
20% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £300,000 up to and including £3,000,000;
and 13.9% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £3,000,000.
