Bearing a rogin-nuri ground and lacquered with a tako (kite) in the form of a yakko (attendant to a samurai) in gold and coloured hiramakie and takamakie, the reverse with the kite string and a hagoita (battledore) lying beside a feather shuttlecock, embellished in similar style, the interior of nashiji, signed Kajikawa saku. 9.5cm (3¾in).

    Both the kite and the battledore are associated with the New Year festival when girls traditionally play shuttlecock and battledore while their brothers fly kites, their soaring in the air symbolising the young boy's rise towards manhood.

Buyers' Premium and Charges

Buyer's Premium Rates
27.5% on the first £2,500 of the hammer price;
25% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £2,500 up to and including £300,000;
20% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £300,000 up to and including £3,000,000;
and 13.9% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £3,000,000.

VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
