A magnificent ivory and lacquer panel
mid Qing dynasty
The wondrous landscape skillfully conveyed through the intricately carved and painted design, depicting a grand official seated at the door of his residence, accepting auspicious presents from various sages including a ruyi and peach, a prostrate monkey also offering a peach, all suggestive of a grand birthday, the setting of the residence an idyllic one in which the pavilions are harmoniously integrated with the rich landscape including mountains, lakes and luxuriant pine trees, all enclosed in an elaborate wood frame.
