The Worcester sucrier from the Calmady service
circa 1772-74
Decorated in the Giles workshop, of plain U shape, brightly enamelled with an armorial shield of gold pears and a chevron on a field of Dry Blue, the shield surrounded with flowers and with a ribbon below inscribed WC, the reverse with the crest of a flying horse and two convolvulus sprigs, 7.4cm high (cover lacking)

  • The initials WC refer either to Captain Warwick Calmady (1711-88) or else his illegitimate son, also named Warwick (1753-80). Warwick Junior married his cousin Pollexfen and this set descended through her family until it was sold in 1985. See John Sandon, Worcester Porcelain at Cheekwood (2008), p. 85, fig. 51.

Buyers' Premium and Charges

For all Sales categories, buyer's premium excluding Cars, Motorbikes, Wine, Whisky and Coin & Medal sales, will be as follows:

Buyer's Premium Rates
27.5% on the first £20,000 of the hammer price;
26% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £20,000 up to and including £700,000;
20% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £700,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.

VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
