A superb set of four Italian Neoclassical giltwood armchairs
late 18th century
Each with an octagonal back carved with a laurel band surmounted by acanthus vines over outset arms carved as ribbon tied clustered vines ending in foliate terminals above water reed carved supports over a shaped seat and rail carved with laurel swags raised on tapering fluted legs, upholstered in Fortuny fabric.

  • When designing the interior of a Nob Hill residence, Michael Taylor sold these chairs to his client, Vincent Friia. When the residence was later updated by Albert Hadley and Gary Hager of Parish-Hadley Associates, the chairs were reupholstered. They are illustrated in Architectural Digest, May, 1990, The Beaux Arts on Nob Hill, page 235.
