A large earthenware vase

Painted in polychrome enamels and gilt over a clear crackled glaze with two large panels of birds beneath stands of flowering plants and a scene of merrymaking under blossoming cherries and pine; the surrounding areas painted with ornate brocade patterns, gilt key fret and geometric collars and stiff leaf bands around the foot, the rim molded with a bamboo lip and painted in gilt; signed in gilt Ryozan and with a Shimazu family crest and the trademark of the Yasuda Company
