1798/7 10C 16 Stars Reverse AG3 ANACS
JR-1, R.3. A popular coin as it has two unusual features that collectors appreciate. There is a bold overdate on the obverse with the 8 clearly punched over a 7 that shows as a long tail extending out the base of the 8. In addition, the obverse has 13 stars; the reverse, however, has 16 stars over the eagle reflecting the older Mint policy of adding stars as new states joined the union. Once the star count reached 16, the Mint reverted back to the original 13 stars as smaller coins were getting covered with stars - as can be seen here. A fair amount of definition shows for the modest grade over the deep argent-gray surfaces. (PCGS 4468)
