With the RGS now considered one of the Birmingham factory's most revered post-war machines, BSA's pre-unit twins are a rare example of a final model of a series evolving as the most desirable. Arriving in 1962, the 650cc Rocket Gold Star was derived from the A10 Road and Super Rocket models and visibly similar to the recently phased out Gold Star. It is ironic that during its gestation period BSA devoted less forethought to the attractive RGS than to other less desirable models. To give BSA credit, this preceded their announcement of the all new A50/A65 unit-engine range, and was coupled with the technical input supplied by Taylor-Dow, who was lobbying BSA for just such a machine since 1959.

Purchased new by the vendor's late brother from Pankhurst's Salisbury branch in April 1962, the original receipt, complete with 3d stamp, shows a payment of £328 18s 3d. As a mobile plant engineer, the owner used it for travelling for many years until deciding it should be stored pending a complete rebuild. He undertook this task in 1987/88, adhering closely to the original spec aside from replacing the Siamese system with twin pattern silencers.

The machine is offered with several original parts including the 2-into-1 pipes, an oil tank and toolbox, a rear hub, a cylinder barrel, and so on. After AAM was restored to pristine condition it has not been ridden on the highway, although it has been displayed and ridden in the appropriate parades including Dorset's Great Steam Fair and/or Netley Marsh. It is perhaps no surprise that on its first appearance at Blandford it won the Organiser's Shield for Best Restoration! The machine is accompanied with the original 52pp Instruction Manual, numerous factory Service Sheets, original RF 60 logbook and V5, correspondence from the BSAOC's Librarian, Owen Wright, confirming the machine was the 55th model produced, and an April 1988 letter from DVLA authenticating the registration mark. It should be noted that the logbook states the frame number as DA10 155, although it is clearly stamped on the machine as GA10 155.
