Footnotes
PROVENANCE: Purchased from the artist A private collection, UK
Lovemore Kambudzi, who was born in Harare in 1978, is the dedicated and passionate chronicler of daily life on the ground in Mugabe's Zimbabwe. Working in a unique pointillist style applying one color at a time across usually large canvases, his masterful compositions weave stories of courage and despair, sadness and humor in the face of overwhelming difficulties. Kambudzi's work provides a profound insight in to an era of catastrophic change in Zimbabwe.
Mbare tyre service depicts the quintessentially African scene of the outdoor market garage in this case the tyre specialist variety. Here all comers are catered for, even the small boy with his football.
Kambudzi's work has been shown widely in Zimbabwe at Gallery Delta, and The National Museum, Harare as well as shows in Amsterdam, Florida and recently in London. His work will also be included in the 2010 FIFA World Cup Art Exhibition in South Africa
