1962 Daimler Ferret Mk2/3 Amphibious Armored Personnel Carrier
Chassis no. 2970
Engine no. 865 1373
Only a handful of these extremely rugged "go anywhere" vehicles were ever exported from England; where they saw combat in the deserts of the Middle East as well as urban assault vehicles on the home front.
Fitted with the six cylinder Rolls-Royce B60 overhead gasoline military engine, a 10-speed (5 forward and 5 reverse!) pre-selector transmission, twin batteries, full 360-degree rotating machine-gun turret, four drive-shafts, and run-flat tires, the Ferret quickly became the favorite of armies around the world as the "work-horse" that never gave up. Including all marks and experimental variants there have probably been over 60 different types of Ferret.
The Mk. 2/3's are considered by many to be the best and most user-friendly of all the Ferret series. When not doing battle, they are easily streetable, capable of top speeds of 58mph, and since they come equipped with a fluid drive, one need not be familiar with a manual transmission. They are even fully amphibious; propulsion and steering when afloat is by means of the road wheels.
The vehicle presented here is one of the last Mk 2/3's manufactured and is an extremely low-mileage example with only 3,700 miles on the clock. Excellent both mechanically and cosmetically, she remains in original condition except for a single repaint. She also received full upgrades, including conversion to 90-amp alternator, prior to leaving military service. There are three bullet strikes which the owner opted to leave as evidence of its history. The engine is the original Rolls-Royce unit. A recent full maintenance check has been performed and she is reported to be ready to be driven and enjoyed. She is fully road legal and currently licensed in California and comes complete with original but now non-lethal 30 cal. Machine gun, 6 grenade-launcher tubes, two hand-operated entrenchment devices (pick and shovel) and top secret Owner's Manual.
You will never need to fight for a parking space again. Offered on a Certificate of Title.
