Sugata (configuration): hirazukuri iorimune
Kitae (forging pattern): itame of jinie
Hamon (tempering pattern): gunome near the hamachi with nie and nioi, the rest indistinct, possibly re-tempered
Nakago (tang): slightly shortened with three holes, signed [Bizen] Osafune Chogi and dated [Teiwa] rokunen shogatsu hi (a day in the first month of 1350)
Habaki (collar): one-piece, gold foil
Nagasa (length from tip to beginning of tang): 11 5/8in (29.5cm)
In shirasaya (wood storage scabbard) with attestation by Tanzan (Tanobe Michihiro) and dated Heisei kinoto no tori (2005)

19th-century aikuchi goshirae comprising an aogai lacquer saya decorated with cherry blossoms in silver lacquer and applied with tooled gilded leather (kinkiri kawa) with a mokume lacquer kojiri; fitted with copper migakiji kogai and kozuka decorated with chrysanthemums in gold and shakudo takazogan and takabori on an ishime ground, signed Toshitsugu with kao; tsuka fitted with copper nanakoji fuchi-gashira and gilt-metal crab menuki

  • According to Tanobe Michihiro, this sword is the work of Chogi. At some point, after it was forged, the body appears to have been re-tempered. For this reason, this sword would not receive a high ranking by the NBTHK.
