A gold and silver damascened Spanish copy of a large frame Smith & Wesson revolver
Eibar, 3rd quarter 19th century
Serial no. 3-79, .44 caliber. 7 1/8 inch barrel signed on top flat in gold F. De Orbea Hermanos en Eibar. Generally showing the profile of the Russian models but with the short extractor housing of the New Model No. 3's. Gilt barrel, hammer, trigger and triggerguard with blued frame and cylinder and decorated overall with gold and silver overlaid scrollwork in the extravagant Eibar style. Steel grips en suite.
Condition: Very good. Barrel with generous traces of gilt finish. Cylinder retaining blue finish in flutes. Some losses to overlaid decoration.

  • Note: The Orbea Brothers company was one of the larger and better gunmakers in northern Spain during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. They produced many revolvers based on various Smith & Wesson models.
