A jade-hilted and gem-set Mughal khanjar
18th or early 19th century
The 8 1/2 inch slightly recurved blade of watered steel with prominent median ridge and armor-piercing point. Pale green jade hilt with small scrolling quillons inlaid on either side with gold florals set with ruby and emerald cabochons, the pommel in the form of a ewe's head with gold-set ruby cabochon eyes. Rose velour-covered scabbard, the gilt brass mounts pierced with scrolling tendrils.
Condition: Fine blade showing some minor spotting. Fine hilt showing some minor chipping to ewe's ears. Scabbard mounts with some very minor wear to gilt finish.
