Footnotes

  • There are three known versions of this portrait of Lucien, Prince of Canino and Musignano (1775-1840) who was the younger brother of Napoleon. The primary version is in the collection of Museo Napoleonico in Rome. The other two versions were in the Canino collection and were sold in London in 1816. One of these two appeared on the Paris market between 1976 and 1983 and the location of the other one is unknown. This was a very popular portrait of Lucien and many contemporary copies are known to exist.
