Footnotes

  • 'For anyone wishing to give their Mercedes that extra personal touch, Mercedes-AMG GmbH has just the answers. The Daimler-Chrysler subsidiary offers the combined experience of Mercedes-Benz and AMG in the field of high-quality enhancements for Mercedes-Benz passenger cars and puts the emphasis firmly on individuality when creating the customer's dream Mercedes.' - Mercedes-AMG GmbH.
AMG, which is now the official performance division of Mercedes-Benz, has a long history of producing high-performance derivatives of Mercedes' standard production vehicles, and these improved versions enjoy an enthusiastic following world-wide, with prominent figures of the motorsport, entertainment, sport and business communities being counted among aficionados.
The car offered here is a 1991 Mercedes-Benz 500SL left-hand drive convertible that was converted to 'SL60' specification by AMG prior to 1997. As such, this car has the 6.0-litre, 32-valve V8 engine (rather than the stock 500SL's 5.0-litre unit) producing in excess of 380bhp (reputedly, AMG later admitted to in excess of 400 horsepower). A 0-62mph (100km/h) time of 5.8 seconds and a top speed of 155 mph (249km/h) were claimed for the SL60, the latter figure increasing to 185mph (298km/h) with the limiter removed.
Imported into the UK from Germany in 1997, the car has had three owners since then. Finished in Bornite metallic with mauve Nappa leather interior, it comes with service history comprising seven stamped services carried out by AMG and Mercedes-Benz agents in Germany plus four in the UK: three by M-B agents and the fourth by an independent specialist. In addition the car comes with all books and manuals, spare keys, radio remote control, factory hardtop stand, a quantity of expired MoT certificates, Swansea V5 registration document, MoT to May 2011 and its last major service bill.
