1954 Ariel 500cc VH Red Hunter
Registration no. KYL 938D
Frame no. KS5100
Engine no. PD336
Ariel has to be one of our better remembered brands, never mind that they were forced to cease for reasons created, and decisions made, by people who were never part of the Selly Oak tradition. It must be accepted that post war they never quite regained the eminent position that they held during the early Thirties under John Sangster's stewardship, but they nevertheless retained a definite aura of individuality through to the mid-1950s, with a revered range of ohv singles that were somehow different to those from AMC and BSA. The factory didn't of course participate in road racing after the war, and their scrambles efforts ran a very poor second to the constant successes of the trials team who, to their credit, were a force to be reckoned with in both solo and sidecar categories. This handsome Red Hunter is fitted with a pair of shrouded adjustable rear dampers by Icon, is equipped with a new 12-volt battery within the traditional black casing, and has its deep seat sensibly reduced in length to comfortably accommodate a rear carrier. The frame is actually from a twin cylinder Huntmaster, of the same vintage, but the fuel tank is the standard item resplendent with its attractive chrome fluting, a styling feature incorporated by the same designer responsible for the distinctive bonnets on Vauxhall motorcars. In regular all-weather use by the vendor the machine has several small owner-friendly modifications. Ready to ride, and offered with a current MOT Certificate and V5C.

20% from £50,001 to £1,000,000 of hammer price,

For Motor Cars and Motorcycles a 15% Buyer's Premium is payable on the first £50,000 of the final Hammer Price of each Lot, and 12% on any amount by which the Hammer Price exceeds £50,000. VAT at the standard rate is payable on the Premium by all Buyers, unless otherwise stated.

Some lots may be subject to VAT on the Hammer Price. These lots will be clearly marked with the relevant symbol printed beside the lot number in the catalog.
